I remember watching this with my best friend Mike when this aired back in 2015. We grew up listening to his genius and were SO EXCITED to get to hear him, and JUST him, speaking from the heart. Mike was struggling with addiction at the time and he commented how amazing it was that Eddie got clean and was still so sharp. We all lost Eddie in 2020, and then I lost my friend, from a relapse to addiction in 2022. Every time I see this interview, I remember sitting with Mike and feeling like everything could finally be OK. Eddie - Thank you for ALL the creativity you gave us, and the memories.

This is a great comparison. Had a Martin OMCPA4, traded it for a Taylor 314ce, which I love, but has a voice totally different from the other brands, which again, I absolutely love. I was waffling between the J-45 and D-18/D-28 for a new voice to complement the Taylor, but waffle no more, this demo was definitive, the J-45, in my opinion, blew the Martin away. Side by side the J45 just had a much fuller voice and I could really hear all the subtle harmonics and the clarity of notes better than I could on the Martin. Just to be clear, the Martin sounded great, I just really preferred the J45 over it.

The best part about this is… If the strings didn’t go out of tune from the string popping, he would’ve rocked the rest of the song without it and done awesome anyways!

He didn't figure the tapping technique out by himself, that has already been debunked by anyone who knows about Van Halen. Still, his overall way of playing guitar set a before and after on the instrument and has been tremendously influential (on top of that, his band was a tremendous commercial success back in the day!)

This entry level version is not great. But the Epiphone LP Special in TV Yellow with 2 P90 pickups, and two volume/two tone knobs is a great guitar, especially at the price point. If you spend a few hundred dollars more on the next level up Epi you really see a significant increase in quality and set up.

P90s are, by far, my favorite pickup ever. You can make them scream if you really want to, but that clean, jazzy tone just cannot be had with any other pickup. They're the best of both worlds.
